PRINCE CASTLE MODULAR HOLDING BIN
Overwatch was tasked to develop a next-generation holding bin for the Quick Serve Restaurant (QSR) kitchen. Prior to the initial ideation, Overwatch conducted several site visits to observe product flow within the kitchens. The key takeaway from the field research was the need for a modular architecture. The end goal was system flexibility and expansion based on future menu additions.
The Challenge
In collaboration with the client, it was determined that each module needed to be able to move around based on menu changes or meal times throughout the day. The modular design allowed the QSR owner to custom configure their equipment based on individual food items. The system also needed to be updated in the field as restaurants added or changed menu items. Stack, add, subtract and move them to suit – build exactly the configurations needed.
The Results
The product was a huge success in the market, secured a patent for the client. In 2018, the National Restaurant Association named Prince Castle’s Modular Holding Bins as one of its prestigious Kitchen Innovation Awards.
Cool Fact
The holding innovation features a master base, allowing the system to expand horizontally and vertically, distributing power and communications to set and maintain desired serving temperatures.
