HEATHROW SCIENTIFIC UNIVERSAL PIPETTE STAND
Heathrow asked Overwatch to design a “universal” pipette stand. By “universal”, the product holds virtually every known brand of pipette in the marketplace. The stand can also hold different sizes, and the clever petal feature provides flexibility to hold different sizes as needed. One-handed removal or replacement of pipettes is made easy with a rotating head and stable weighted base. The pipette stand comes with additional upper leaves to enable multiple color-coding configuration options.
The Challenge
Labs across the globe do not wish to be tied into a specific brand of pipette and most already have multiple brands in use. Prior to jumping into the aesthetic design, this product first required an elegant mechanical solution to accommodate multiple styles and sizes of pipettes from dozens of manufacturers. While the pipette holder lives in a lab environment, Overwatch was challenged to add elements of color and style to make the system less utilitarian looking.
Cool Fact
This product is full of features to delight the end-user. It ships disassembled for simple IKEA-like assembly. The pipettes are held in a vertical position to help prevent contamination. The stand conveniently rotates to select or store pipettes. Lastly, the weighted base allows for easy one-handed removal or replacement of pipettes.
