HEATHROW SCIENTIFIC MAGFUGE CENTRIFUGE + MAGNETIC STIRRER

Overwatch was chosen to develop the industry’s first combined high-speed centrifuge and magnetic stirrer for Heathrow Scientific. This innovative design enables a lab to save substantial cost and work surface area by eliminating the need to purchase two separate pieces of equipment.

The Challenge

The MagFuge had a long list of requirements and specifications. These included developing a housing made from a durable, chemically resistant ABS and a lid molded in a ballistic grade polycarbonate making it safe, easy to clean and maintain. Another challenge was to develop a dual purpose product to minimize cost of ownership. We had to create a low-profile design that helps reduce bench clutter in the lab. Lastly, Overwatch had to implement an intuitive user interface that allows for quick set up.

The Results

The MagFuge has a patented design in the US and Europe. The product has enabled Heathrow to create their own exclusive product category. Several larger manufacturers are currently private labeling this product as well – the ultimate endorsement of a great product. US Design Patent No. D814,045 and Utility Patent Pending

Cool Fact

The high-performance Magnetic Stirrer (3L Plus) is designed to provide a powerful magnetic coupling that ensures consistent accurate alignment of the stir bar that significantly reduces the chance of spin-outs. MagFuge safety features help ensure it will not operate when the lid is open, a rotor is jammed, or the unit is out of balance. Finally, sensor technology prevents the stirrer rotor from being used above 2,500 RPM helping to protect users and prevent unit damage.
