Mechanical Design Engineer
Naperville, IL | Full Time

The Mechanical Design Engineer position is an important player on the Overwatch team and would be ideal for someone with 3 to 5 years of experience. This position is responsible for assisting with solutions for product design problems. These solutions must be based on a solid mechanical foundation. The Design Engineer job responsibilities include several aspects of mechanical design and development to ensure performance, reliability, and an overall high-quality deliverable to our clients. In this role, the Design Engineer will work under the guidance of senior staff members and collaboratively with team members from other disciplines.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Comprehends clients’ requirements for the products that Overwatch is developing and drives to meet these requirements
- Mechanical design and development of parts, mechanisms, and assemblies in Solidworks
- Collaborate with other team members in multi-discipline ideation sessions
- Present and participate in mechanical design reviews
- Work onsite in our Naperville, Illinois office
- Assemble and evaluate proof of concept mockups
- Build and test functional prototypes
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent
- Must have Solidworks experience
- Ability to ideate and sketch out mechanical concepts in a group setting
- A true problem solver that can stretch outside of their chosen field
- A thirst for knowledge and experiential growth beyond their previous experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A portfolio of educational or personal projects will be beneficial for evaluation
Additional Skills Preferred
- Plastic part, sheet metal, and mechanism design experience will make a candidate standout
- Complex assembly experience using Solidworks
- Experience with multiple 3D printing technologies and materials
- GD&T dimensioning
- Understanding and experience with 2D technical drawings and conventional drawing standards
- Hands on experience with hand and/or power tools
- Surface modeling knowledge within Solidworks
